What place on campus was significant to you? : FPH is significant to me because it is where a majority of my courses have been held. My major and advisors are all central in that building.

Describe the on-campus place as you remember it. : ugly architecture. great courtyard and fruit trees. cold. all kinds of chairs. never enough chairs. a place where students of differing majors come together.

What place off-campus was significant to you? : The drive off campus to home is significant to me. On the drive there I look forward to the classes of the day. On the way home I unwind and review what I experienced that day. I live at home and my drive from campus is fifty minutes north on 202.

Describe the off-campus place as you remember it. : runners. slow drivers. fast drivers. loud music. quiet landscapes. fog, dew, snow, rain, and sun rays. trees, the Quabbin, farm stands. bumper stickers.

Dear Chelsea,

Drop the teenage attitude. Complaining about the capitalist education system will not fix the system. Avoiding higher education also means missing out on a new world. Missing out on new people, your people, and new viewpoints. Missing out on Hampshire College.

At first, you will not feel ‘good enough.’ You will be told to wait and you will eventually be rejected. As personal as this may feel, it is not. You will find your place somewhere you did not even know existed.  This place allows you the power to choose your own path. This place has professors and mentors that are honest and offer new learning techniques.

You will soon discover just how special you are. Your peers will be from all parts of the globe and lucky you; you are a local. Remember this as you hear stories from near and far.

Absorbing how things are will be difficult.

It will poison your mind.

&

It will break you.

Keep going.

You will be accepted back. You will accomplish more than you imagined with higher education. You will learn who you really are at Hampshire.

Hampshire College will seem like it flew by so soak it in while you can. There is no other place like this in the world.

The more you try to ‘fit in,’ the less you will.

The less you try to fit in, you will perfectly
